Get 24/7 asbestos 4 stage clearance from the experts
If you need fast HSE asbestos 4 stage clearance we can help thanks to our popular 24 / 7 service. We operate it on request and even provide an emergency call-out service, designed for those times when safety can't wait. It’s good to know all our asbestos inspection services are provided in accordance with ISO 17020. This four stage process is a must for all licensed asbestos removal works, which have to be carried out by an independent UKAS accredited company like us.
Stage 1 - Preliminary site check and audit of documentation
Our analyst establishes the scope of work, checking whether it has been carried out properly. They also check the site files to make sure all the relevant information is present and up to date. Then they make a careful visual assessment of the site to check the removal enclosure is intact, the site decontamination unit is working, and the work area, transit and waste routes are free from clutter and obvious contamination. Once we’re happy and can begin an inspection, we sign off.
Stage 2 - A thorough visual inspection of the work area
Our analyst inspects the removal area to check for residual material or debris. Every part of the enclosure, including airlocks and baglocks, must be free from debris and dust. Because asbestos contamination is easily spread during the removal process, we inspect every surface in the area to make sure they’re clean. If not, the cleaning process has to continue.
We test and analyse for asbestos fibres, including respirable fibre. We brush the work enclosure at the start of the sample run to disturb any unseen, fine, settled dust that could contain asbestos fibres and result in high levels of exposure during future dismantling, cleaning maintenance. Depending on the area’s size, we can use several air monitoring tests and samples. We collect them on filters which we remove and test using Phase Contrast Microscopy. If all is well, dismantling is signed off.
Finally, we make sure there’s no hidden residual dust or debris left behind after the enclosure materials have been removed. We also check general work for residual problems, revisiting the transit and waste routes if necessary. Once all four stages are complete, we issue a certificate of reoccupation.
While smoke testing isn’t part of 4 stage asbestos clearance, it is carried out as part of licensed asbestos removal works.
Once your enclosure is erect and ready for removal, with negative air pressure units working, we fill it with smoke. It’s a reliable way to check the integrity of the enclosure and make sure all the smoke leaves it within a set time. It’s good practice to have this witnessed by an independent asbestos consultancy. This can also be carried out during the removal itself. If we find any leaks we will investigate and fix them.
