Comprehensive Legionella risk assessments and water hygiene testing in accordance with ACoP L8 and HSG274.

Every employer and person responsible for premises has a legal duty under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 to manage the risk of Legionella in their water systems. Failure to do so can result in serious illness, prosecution, and reputational damage. HFS Environmental provides independent Legionella risk assessments and water hygiene monitoring to help clients identify and control this risk effectively.
The standard culture procedure we use usually takes 10-12 days to complete.
A legionella test is a comprehensive survey that assesses and establishes the presence or absence of the bacteria. It involves water sampling and testing, and may include ongoing monitoring to check the bacteria stays away.
The legionella pneumophila bacterium causes legionella in water.
Legionella is present in almost every natural water system, including rivers, lakes and streams. But the levels are usually too low to be a problem. When it gets into man-made water systems, it can be a different story. A build up of biofilm in pipes and other systems causes the bacteria to grow and spread, along with other pathogens. If the water temperature is between 20–45°C, the conditions are ideal for legionella to thrive.
